FAQ

  • “A coach is someone who tells you what you don’t want to hear, who has you see what you don’t want to see, so you can be who you have always known you could be.”
    Tom Landry

A personal life or business coach provides support and a different point of view, offers different options and opens up possibilities for people so they can make decisions based on what they truly want – not what they should want. A coach is someone who wants a lot for their client and is committed to their success and fulfilment. A coach helps their client meet challenges and stay focused and on track, sharing observations and insights and making requests for action. In other words, the client identifies a gap between where they are and where they want to be and the coach helps them bridge that gap.

Coaching is “a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. To be successful, a coach requires a knowledge and understanding of process as well as a variety of styles, skills, and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which the coaching takes place.
    Eric Parsloe

  • Coaching is not therapy or counselling. The latter often deal predominantly with a person’s past and painful events. Their focus is on talking about issues and on healing. While acknowledging the importance of past events and experiences, coaching deals more with a person’s present and the focus is on taking action and on creating a desirable future. While the experience of the coaching process itself may be healing or even therapeutic for a client, the coach is not a therapist and is not in the business of giving a diagnosis as a therapist would.

Professional Coaching is an ongoing partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results in their personal and professional lives. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and enhance their quality of life. In each meeting, the client chooses the focus of conversation, while the coach listens and contributes observations and questions. This interaction creates clarity and moves the client into action. Coaching accelerates the client’s progress by providing greater focus and awareness of choice. Coaching concentrates on where clients are today and what they are willing to do to get to where they want to be tomorrow.

International Coach Federation’s definition of coaching

  • A coach partners you to specify what you want, set targets, and devise and implement effective strategies to reach them. A coach works with you to resolve problems and to stay focused and on track, giving specific suggestions and making requests for action. In other words you identify a gap between where you are and where you want to be – and the coach helps you bridge that gap.

  • I can offer face to face coaching in London if required. Generally however I coach my clients over Zoom which I find works equally well and ensures minimum disturbances on both sides. Zoom software is easy to set up and straightforward to use – all you need is access to a computer and perhaps some headphones.

  • Coaching takes place during regular sessions in person, by phone or via Zoom. We schedule regular appointments at your convenience. Using a myriad of coaching techniques I partner you as you face challenges, reach goals, explore options and maximise professional and personal opportunities. Naturally all of our sessions are confidential.
